Don’t Miss These Holiday Events In Beaufort

The Christmas season is officially underway and this week brings lots of holiday events to the area and plenty of fantastic family fun. From Shakespeare to bonfires and parades, Santa, puppet shows, singing and more…

Main Street Beaufort, USA presents the 29th Annual A Night on the Town celebration with three straight days of fun in downtown Beaufort starting on Friday, December 5 at 6pm. A long standing tradition of the community, A Night on the Town brings Christmas alive in Beaufort. Shops will stay open late to show off their good stuff and the evening includes the City of Beaufort’s Tree Lighting Ceremony, entertainment by dance groups, the Parris Island Marine Corps Band, choral performances, puppet shows and a rumored visit from Santa.

On Saturday, December 6, Main Street Beaufort, USA and the Beaufort Sail and Power Squadron’s Light Up the Night Boat Parade on the Beaufort River. Best seen from Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park, the fun starts at 5:30 and the parade of holiday-decorated boats will make three passes by the seawall.

On Sunday, December 7 the traditional Beaufort Christmas Parade starts at 3pm through the streets of downtown Beaufort. Floats, bands, local organizations, personal cars and trucks…and Santa, are all expected to participate.

Enjoy some Shakespeare with the Beaufort Shakespeare Rep’s 2014 – 2015 Apprentice Company’s performance of A Renaissance Christmas at The Spaghetti Club, a fabulous new restaurant and nightlife venue in Habersham. It’s happening on Tuesday, December 9 at 6pm.

On Wednesday, December 10, join the Town of Port Royal for its Annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Christmas in the Park at 6pm, at Live Oaks Park at Port Royal Elementary School. Hang out and get warm around the bonfire and meet with Santa for awhile.

On Thursday, December 11, a must-attend is the 2014 Festival of Trees Opening Gala.  In its 28th year, the Festival benefits Friends of Caroline Hospice and showcases beautifully decorated Christmas trees that are judged for their originality and creativity. Local organizations, groups and schools from our community are the decorators! The Festival kicks off with an Opening Gala at The Shed in Port Royal, featuring a silent auction, music, wine, beer and appetizers from local restaurants.  The Festival of Trees runs through Saturday.

On Thursday you could also opt to enjoy a unique performance of A Christmas Carol in the Black Box Theatre at ARTworks in Beaufort Town Center or the Beaufort Symphony Orchestra’s Christmas concert, Holiday at the Pops, at Sea Island Presbyterian Church on Lady’s Island.

Friday, December 12, at USCB Center for the Arts enjoy Christmas the Gullah-way with the original musical Gullah Kinfolk Christmas Wish starring Beaufort’s own Aunt Pearlie Sue and her Gullah Kinfolk. The night includes a full stage production, art exhibit, and food tasting tents with a Gullah feast served before the show.

Round out the weekend with a free Sunday, December 14,Downtown Beaufort in Holiday Lights evening performance by the Parris Island Marine Band in the 6th Annual Lowcountry Christmas Concert at Community Bible Church at 7pm. The Parris Island Marine Band will be performing a variety of seasonal favorites in the church’s main auditorium.
