Celebration For F-35 Training Squadron Planned

Beaufort organizations are hosting an arrival celebration Friday for VMFAT-501, the F-35 training squadron assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, according to a news release.

The free celebration will be from 6 to 9 p.m. in Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. It will feature the Parris Island Marine Band, fireworks and a patriotic ceremony, in addition to games and prizes, a clown and refreshments.

The event will coincide with the Downtown Art Walk, the release said.

MCAS Beaufort is expected to receive the aircraft in 2014 along with Marine Fighter Attack Training squadron 501, the Marine Corps’ first F-35B training squadron, which falls under the command of Marine Aircraft Group 31 aboard MCAS Beaufort.
